What shipping options are available?

Most Salt & Steel orders ship via USPS Standard Shipping for a flat rate of approximately $5.95.

Because each piece is handcrafted and made to order, please allow up to three weeks for your jewelry to be created before it ships. Do you ship internationally?

At this time, Salt & Steel ships within the United States only. We are not currently able to offer international shipping.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Every Salt & Steel order includes tracking.

As soon as your shipping label is created and your order is ready to leave our studio, you'll receive a shipping confirmation email with your USPS tracking number so you can follow your package throughout its journey.

What is Salt & Steel's return policy?

Because every piece is handcrafted and made to order, we do not currently accept returns or exchanges.

If your order arrives damaged or you experience an issue with your purchase, please reach out as soon as possible so we can work with you to find a solution.

Please send us an email with your name, the reason for your return, as well as the transaction number associated with your purchase. After that time, we have already begun sourcing materials or creating your piece, and we're unable to cancel the order. Custom orders cannot be canceled once they have been placed.

Care & Repair

Every Salt & Steel piece is handcrafted using solid metals that are designed to be worn, enjoyed, and lived in. Below are answers to common questions about caring for your jewelry, professional polishing, repairs, and keeping your favorite pieces looking their best.

Does Salt & Steel offer cleaning or polishing services?

Yes. Salt & Steel offers professional polishing services for previously purchased pieces.

To get started, simply send us an email and we'll guide you through the process. You'll be asked to mail your jewelry along with:

  • Your first and last name
  • Email address
  • Return shipping address
  • A brief description of the service you'd like completed

Professional polishing is $40 per piece, and discounted pricing may be available for multiple pieces being polished at the same time.

Can I have my jewelry cleaned somewhere else?

We recommend having your Salt & Steel jewelry cleaned by us whenever possible.

Because every piece is handcrafted, we're familiar with the materials, finishes, and techniques used to create each design. This allows us to restore your jewelry while preserving the character and details that make it unique.

How often should I have my jewelry professionally cleaned?

That depends on how you wear it.

At Salt & Steel, we love watching brass and sterling silver develop a natural patina over time. Our jewelry is intentionally designed with an organic, rustic character, and many customers choose to let their pieces age naturally.

If you'd like to brighten your jewelry at home while still maintaining its unique character, we recommend using a Sunshine® Polishing Cloth. It's an easy way to restore shine without removing the personality your piece develops through everyday wear.

Does Salt & Steel offer repair services?

Yes. We offer repairs for Salt & Steel jewelry.

Every repair is evaluated individually to determine the best solution. Depending on the condition of the piece, we'll either repair or replace it—whichever is the most practical and cost-effective option for you.

To request a repair assessment, simply contact us with photos and a brief description of the damage.

How much does a repair usually cost?

Repair pricing varies depending on the type of damage, materials required, and the amount of work involved.

After reviewing your piece, we'll provide you with an estimate before any repair work begins.

If repairable, the cost is anywhere between $20-100 (dependent on labor involved in the repair process) + shipping.

If the piece is not repairable we can most likely replace it at a discounted rate in exchange for the damaged item.

How long do repairs take?

Most repairs are completed within three weeks, although turnaround times may vary depending on the complexity of the repair and current studio workload.

What's the best way to store and care for my Salt & Steel jewelry?

To help preserve your jewelry, store it in a dry place away from prolonged humidity and standing water when it's not being worn.

Salt & Steel pieces are crafted from solid brass and solid sterling silver, which naturally develop a patina over time. This is a normal part of how these metals age and is something many of our customers love.

If you prefer a brighter finish, your jewelry can always be polished at home with a Sunshine® Polishing Cloth or professionally polished through our studio.

-Brass pieces are solid brass, not plated.
**Brass rings -- if you’re sensitive to brass, meaning your skin turns green sometimes (washes off), you may want to consider going all silver for rings. If you’re a die hard, tried and true brass lover, you can periodically coat the inside with clear nail polish and it works like a charm!

-Sterling Silver pieces do not require a lacquer coating. Silver polishing cloths are a worthwhile investment if you own lots of silver. I'd suggest 'Sunshine Polishing Cloths' available via the internet. Most Salt & Steel pieces are oxidized to accentuate details so please avoid dipping your pieces in silver polishing solutions. They will come out very bright and lose the aged look that is quintessentially Salt & Steel. Showering with your silver shouldn't be a problem at all. If you wear them often, your natural oils will actually prevent tarnish--thats why we love silver!!

-Gold-filled do not tarnish as easily as silver or brass! Over time it will begin to lose it's luster. Just clean them with some mild soap and water and they should shine right up. *Please don't confuse gold-filled for gold plate--Gold-filled is of much better quality and won't rub off like gold plate. Lastly- yes, you can wear them in the shower!

When you say "ethically conscious", what does that mean ?

Through the efforts of organizations like Ethical Metalsmiths, MJSA, & the Responsible Jewelry Council, small jewelers, like myself, have access to shared information influencing us to make "ethically conscious" decisions, ask questions, and actively become more aware & responsible in our practices. Below is a list of sourced materials currently being used in my process.

Raw materials- wire, sheet metal, stones & findings are purchased from one of the top jewelry supply companies in the U.S. They are based out of Albuquerque, NM & pride themselves in being socially and environmentally conscious in their business practices. Wire and sheet metal is produced in their home facility, which is 100% solar powered! For stone supply & findings, they partner only with U.S. and trusted over seas facilities who follow a code of ethics certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council. This means they periodically visits the cutting factories that shape rough stones into their faceted gems & cabochons.

Packaging- I am currently looking to utilize EcoEnclose shipping materials to provide environmentally friendly packaging. I'm still working out the logistics before fully switching over, but the change is coming soon! I'll update this accordingly.

Commissioned Pieces

Creating a custom piece is a collaborative process. Below are answers to common questions about commissioned jewelry, design ownership, modifications, repairs, and resizing.

Because commissioned jewelry is created specifically for each client, custom pieces are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.

We work closely with you throughout the design process to ensure you're confident in your commission before it is completed.

Can a previous commissioned design be recreated?

Yes. If you'd like a previously commissioned design recreated, we'd be happy to discuss your request.

Because every piece is handcrafted, each version will have its own subtle variations while staying true to the original design.

Who owns the final design?

The final design remains the intellectual property of Salt & Steel.

This allows us to continue creating and evolving our original work while maintaining the integrity of our designs.

Can an existing Salt & Steel design be modified?

Yes. Many existing Salt & Steel designs can be customized or adapted to better suit your preferences.

If you have an idea for a variation, feel free to reach out and we'll let you know what's possible.

Can I provide my own gemstone?

In most cases, we do not work with customer-supplied stones.

The exception is certain calibrated round cabochons or calibrated faceted gemstones, which may be suitable depending on the project. If you'd like to use your own stone, please contact us before placing your commission so we can determine whether it will work for your design.

Does Salt & Steel repair commissioned pieces?

Yes. We offer repair services for commissioned jewelry.

Each repair is evaluated individually to determine the best approach and provide an estimate before any work begins.

Can commissioned pieces be resized after they're completed?

Yes. Many commissioned pieces can be resized after completion.

Resizing options depend on the design and construction of the piece, so we'll evaluate each request individually and recommend the best solution.
