Custom Jewelry Commissions

Jewelry designed around your story, your materials, and your vision.

Some pieces begin with a sketch. Others begin with a family heirloom, a meaningful stone, or an idea you've carried for years. Salt & Steel creates one-of-a-kind commissioned jewelry through a collaborative design process, crafting pieces that reflect the people who wear them—not trends. Whether you're celebrating a milestone, redesigning inherited jewelry, or creating something entirely new, every commission is made by hand and thoughtfully designed from start to finish.

Custom From the Idea to the Finished Piece

Every commission begins with a conversation

Some clients arrive with sketches and inspiration boards. Others only know how they want the piece to feel.

Together, we'll explore textures, finishes, proportions, materials, and references before developing rough sketches that gradually evolve into your final design.

Throughout the process, you'll receive updates, photos, and opportunities for feedback, ensuring the finished piece feels truly yours.

Danika's custom silver and emerald ring

Silver · Emeralds

Danika’s Ring

A one-of-a-kind ring created using emeralds from a pendant given to the client by her grandmother.

The original pendant held deep sentimental value, but its design did not reflect the client’s personal style. The stones were transformed into a custom ring influenced by elements of Pre-Columbian artwork, allowing her to carry the family history in a piece she could wear with confidence.

Joy's custom sterling silver snake ring

Sterling Silver

Joy’s Snake Ring

A sculptural silver ring developed around the client’s interest in organic forms and symbolic jewelry.

The design was shaped through conversation, visual references, and rough sketches before being refined into a distinctive piece that feels expressive, personal, and comfortable to wear.

Custom hand-hammered silver band

Sterling Silver · Hand-Hammered

Custom Statement Band

A bold silver band shaped and textured entirely by hand.

Originally developed as a private commission, the piece was created to balance substantial form with the irregular character of a hand-finished surface. Every mark contributes to its individual texture and presence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can commissioned pieces be returned?

Because commissioned pieces are created specifically for each client, they are considered final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.

Can a commissioned design be replicated?

In some cases, yes. A commissioned design may be recreated or adapted in the future when appropriate and with consideration for the original client and project.

Do clients own the final design?

Clients own the finished piece they purchase. The original design and its intellectual property remain with Salt & Steel and the artist who developed it.

Can an existing Salt & Steel design be modified?

Yes. Existing designs may be adapted through changes to materials, stones, proportions, finishes, or other details. Reach out to discuss what you have in mind and whether the requested changes are possible.

Can I provide my own stones or heirloom materials?

In many cases, yes. Customer-provided stones and heirloom materials are considered individually based on their condition, size, structure, and suitability for the proposed design.

Do you repair commissioned pieces?

Yes. Salt & Steel can assess commissioned pieces for repair. Available options and costs will depend on the condition of the piece and the work required.

Can a commissioned piece be resized after completion?

Resizing may be available depending on the design, materials, stones, and construction of the piece. Reach out so the artist can review the piece and recommend the best approach.
